What to expect:

This course module consists of two parts:

• The first part focus on the secure cannulation of a patient.

Using different phantom models, participans will practice safe, ultrasound guided puncture and cannulation, get in touch with different wires, learn bail out strategies and handle devices for percutanous large bore access closure for safe de-cannulation at the end of an ECMO run.

• The second part will focus on a case scenario.

Using last generation ECMO simulators, participans will be guided through a clinical case and learn how to handle potential complications.

Intended Learning outcomes:

• Ultrasound guided puncture for safe ECMO cannulation
• Wire skills and bailout strategies
• Selection of adequate cannulation side, configuration and cannula size
• Large Bore access closure for safe percoutanous ECMO de-cannulation
• ECMO management and dealing with complications
• LV-Venting
