Workshop Overview
Experience hands-on training in prehospital extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (eCPR) for patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).
Working under realistic, non-ideal field conditions, participants will practise ECMO cannulation while integrating near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE), and effective collaboration with emergency medical services (EMS) personnel.
What to expect during the workshop
- Hands-on Cannulation: Practise eCPR cannulation using two different simulators.¨
- TEE-Guided Procedures: Use TEE to support cannulation, optimise cannula positioning, and assess CPR quality.
- Realistic Prehospital Scenarios: Perform cannulation under the challenging and non-ideal conditions encountered in the prehospital environment.
- Integrated Teamwork: Coordinate the eCPR workflow with EMS personnel, from scene management and patient preparation to cannulation and ongoing resuscitation.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply a structured approach to scene management during prehospital eCPR
- Perform ECMO cannulation under realistic prehospital conditions
- Use TEE to guide cannulation and evaluate CPR quality
- Integrate NIRS into patient monitoring and clinical decision-making
- Improve teamwork and coordination with EMS personnel
- Strengthen communication in a challenging, high-pressure environment
