Dr. Marcel van de Poll
is a surgeon and intensive care physician at Maastricht University Medical Centre, the Netherlands. His clinical interests comprise acute critical care, nutrition, and organ donation surgery. In addition, he holds a position as assistant professor at Maastricht University, performing clinical and translational research. His main research topics concern extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and nutrition and metabolism in the critically ill. He is principal investigator in large multicentre trials such as the INCEPTION trial, as yet the only multicentre randomized controlled trial studying the clinical effectiveness of ECPR for OHCA that was published in NEJM and the PRECISe trial, studying the efficacy of high protein nutrition in critical illness, that was recently published in the Lancet.
